The Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme II (ASDSP II) is a five-year program funded by the Kenyan government (National and County Governments), the Swedish Government, and the European Union (EU).

The Program aims to address four key challenges that impede agricultural commercialization:

  1. low productivity along agricultural value chains;
  2. insufficient entrepreneurial skills along agricultural value chains and among service providers;
  3. limited market access by VCAs;
  4. weak and insufficient structures and capacities for consultation, cooperation, and coordination within the sector.

  • Access to markets by Priority Value Chain actors improved and
  • Strengthened structures and capacities for consultation, collaboration, cooperation, and coordination in the Agricultural Sector strengthened

  • Demand-driven and stakeholder-led Value Chain Development (VCD);
  • Partnership-based investment and implementation;
  • Harmonization with government structures and procedures;
  • Commercial and ‘pull-focused’ VCD;
  • Integration of women and youth in VCD;
  • Resilience-focused and climate smart approach to VCD; and

The overall goal of ASDSP II is to contribute to “transformation of crop, livestock and fishery production into commercially oriented enterprises that ensure sustainable food and nutrition security”.
